an ill beginning makes an ill ending

Definition
Something that is badly planned or that starts badly is unlikely to end well: We had problems with transportation and supplies in the early stages of the expedition, which did not bode well for us—an ill beginning makes an ill ending. The proverb was first recorded in 1562 in A. Broke's Romeus and Juliet.
