adventures are to the adventurous

Definition
Those who are not bold, and who take no risks, will not have exciting lives or achieve spectacular things: "He told himself that adventure was to the adventurous. … If he could not make the effort for the small he would miss the big adventure" (Thomas Hinde, Mr. Nicholas, 1952). The proverb was first recorded in Benjamin Disraeli's Coningsby (1844).
