Alberich's cloak

Pronunciation pronunciation key
albăriks

Definition
A cloak of invisibility, or anything else that allows a person to operate undetected. In Scandinavian mythology, Alberich appears as a king of the dwarfs, although in Richard Wagner's operatic Ring cycle (1869–76) he is transformed into an ugly gnome who steals the treasure of the Nibelungs but is later forced by the gods to give up his ill-gotten gains. His magical cloak is stolen by Siegfried. The program acts like an Alberich's cloak, allowing a hacker to get behind firewalls and other cyber defenses without being detected.
